Unique Paver Designs for Every Style

When it comes to creating a unique and personalized outdoor space, the variety of paver materials and design options available ensures there's something for every style. Let's explore some classic and modern looks that can transform your patio.

Classic and Timeless Patterns

For those who appreciate traditional elegance, classic paver patterns like cobblestone , herringbone , and brick are perfect choices.

  • Cobblestone : Evoking a sense of nostalgia and old-world charm, cobblestone pavers bring a rustic feel to any patio. Their irregular shapes and textures create a natural look that feels like a journey back in time. However, it's important to note that while cobblestone offers a unique aesthetic, it can be slippery and is typically more expensive.
  • Herringbone : This pattern is known for its interlocking design, providing both visual interest and stability. Inspired by European designs, the herringbone pattern is not only beautiful but also practical, offering resistance against shifting.
  • Brick : A timeless choice, brick pavers add warmth and character to a patio. With options like basketweave or running bond patterns, brick designs can be both classic and versatile. They're durable and easy to maintain, making them a practical option for any weather condition.

Modern and Contemporary Looks

For a sleek and updated aesthetic, consider concrete pavers and geometric designs that emphasize minimalist aesthetics.

  • Concrete Pavers : Ideal for a clean and contemporary look, large concrete pavers with smooth finishes offer a modern vibe. They can be arranged in geometric patterns for a striking visual effect. Concrete is also cost-effective and versatile, making it a popular choice for modern patios.
  • Geometric Designs : Geometric patterns, such as grids or interlocking shapes, add a modern twist to traditional patio designs. These designs are perfect for homeowners who want to make a bold statement while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.

Whether you lean towards classic elegance or modern simplicity, unique paver designs provide the flexibility to create a patio that reflects your personal style and improves the beauty of your outdoor space.

Enhancing Your Patio with Unique Paver Designs

Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Options

Incorporating eco-friendly pavers into your patio design not only benefits the environment but also adds a unique touch to your outdoor space. Flagstone and travertine are excellent choices for those looking to blend sustainability with style.

  • Flagstone : Known for its natural, earthy appearance, flagstone is a popular choice for eco-conscious homeowners. Its irregular shapes and earthy tones create a natural look that integrates seamlessly with outdoor environments. Flagstone pavers are durable and can be sourced locally, reducing the environmental impact of transportation.
  • Travertine : This natural stone offers a sophisticated, resort-like aesthetic while being eco-friendly. Travertine is often used around pools due to its non-slip surface and cool touch. To maintain its pristine appearance, sealing travertine is recommended to protect it from stains and wear.

Choosing pavers that are sustainably sourced and have a low carbon footprint is a step toward a greener outdoor space. These materials not only improve the beauty of your patio but also contribute to environmental preservation.

Mixing and Matching Materials

For a truly personalized patio, consider mixing and matching different paver materials . This approach allows for creative combinations that can lift the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor area.

  • Design Skill : Combining various paver materials requires a keen eye for design. It's essential to select materials that complement each other in color, texture, and style. Mixing materials like concrete and natural stone can create a dynamic and visually interesting patio.
  • Complementary Patterns : The key to a successful mix-and-match design is to use complementary patterns. For instance, pairing a smooth concrete border with a textured stone center can create a balanced and harmonious look.
  • Creative Combinations : Don't be afraid to experiment with different materials and layouts. A mix of travertine and flagstone can offer a blend of luxury and rustic charm. Combining pavers with other elements like gravel or sand can also add depth and dimension to your patio design.

By skillfully blending different paver materials, you can craft a patio that is not only functional but also a unique expression of your personal style. This approach allows you to play with textures and patterns, creating a space that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

The legendary architect Louis Sullivan coined a phrase that has driven architecture and design ever since: "form follows function." While aesthetics are critical to buildings and landscapes alike, that physical beauty must always remain secondary to the fundamentals of good design. In Shoreview, Minnesota, just outside St. Paul , we encountered a landscape where, unfortunately, function followed form. Here, the realities and principles of effective drainage were downstream of their original builder's aesthetic choices. That meant water from snowmelt and rainfall was streaming into parts of the lawn where it wasn't meant to be. The standing water that had been allowed to collect in the back and side yards was putting a considerable amount of the property out of play. In order to reclaim usable space and rethink the way the land handled water, this Shoreview homeowner entrusted KG Landscape with identifying key issues, presenting potential solutions, and doing the necessary work the client decided upon to restore their lawn.

On the shores of Lake Minnetonka, perhaps the most famous of Minnesota's 10,000 lakes, an Orono, Minnesota homeowner was struggling with a back yard that was becoming more marsh than yard. The yard was a scenic one. The back porch opened up to the top of a small hill, which rolled down toward the lakefront and the boathouse. This flat space between the hill and the water would be ideal for backyard barbecues, some low-stakes games of bocce and badminton, or simply a spot to lay down a towel and get some summer reading done. Instead, this area was too waterlogged to enjoy. The runoff from the hilltop combined with unfavorable soil composition were limiting the use of the yard, closing off space while even diminishing the quality of the turf. How would this homeowner be able to reclaim this unusable land without disrupting the Lake Minnetonka shoreline that made the property so attractive? To find a solution, they turned to KG Landscape.
