Design that Inspires
Experienced & Skilled Landscape Designers
We believe that every landscape project worth building is worth designing first. For every design-build client we work with, we painstakingly explore creative possibilities in pursuit of the strongest possible solution.
No detail is overlooked as we apply our education, experience, and design talent to create outdoor spaces that feel intentional, inspiring, and deeply connected to the people who enjoy them.
We know that the quality of the design ultimately determines the quality of the result. That’s why we treat design as the most critical phase of any outdoor improvement project—refining ideas, testing options, and pushing each concept until it reaches its highest potential. This disciplined approach is how we ensure every landscape we create reflects exceptional craftsmanship, thoughtful planning, and the highest design standards we’re capable of delivering.

From outdoor living spaces planned to support how you gather and move, to front yard landscapes that quietly elevate your everyday experience, every detail is carefully considered. We explore options, test ideas, and refine decisions through a thoughtful design process—so what’s built represents the strongest possible solution for your home, now and long into the future. We take pride in creating designs that stand the test of time.
Founded by Kent Gliadon, principal designer and University of Minnesota–trained landscape designer with over 20 years of experience shaping landscapes with design integrity that stands the test of time. At KG Landscape, design leadership remains directly involved from concept through refinement.
Why Landscape Design Is the Foundation of a Great Outdoor Space
Professional landscape design is the difference between simply placing elements in a yard and creating an outdoor space that feels intentional, cohesive, and enduring.
The landscapes that look effortless and function beautifully are never accidental. They are the result of careful planning, disciplined decision-making, and a deep understanding of how people move through and experience space. At the highest level, landscape design is no different than architecture—it is the accumulation of thoughtful choices that creates something truly exceptional.
When design is done well, the result isn’t just a better-looking yard. It’s a space that feels right, works intuitively, and continues to add value—both emotionally and financially—year after year.
How Thoughtful Landscape Design Saves Time, Money, and Stress
Most landscape problems don’t come from poor construction alone—they come from decisions made without a clear, holistic design vision for a great design team. Homeowners who want truly exceptional outdoor spaces choose KG Landscape to fully take on the responsibility for thoughtful planning and the seamless integration of every feature.
Our clients often know what they like when they see it; it’s our role to guide the process, anticipate details, and offer meaningful ideas and solutions along the way. By assuming full ownership of the design from the start, we plan every detail with care—so nothing feels overlooked and you never find yourself wishing something had been done differently later.
That same level of care continues through construction. Our experienced project management and installation teams work hand in hand with our designers to ensure every feature is executed precisely as planned—so nothing needs to be undone, reworked, or revisited due to poor planning. The result is a landscape that feels complete, intentional, and built to last.
When landscapes are built piece by piece, without an overarching plan, they often fall short. Spaces can feel disjointed, underperform functionally, or require costly changes later—usually when a homeowner realizes, “If I had known we’d eventually want this, we would have done things differently.” Exceptional landscape design prevents that.
Through a deliberate and comprehensive design process, we explore what’s possible before anything is built. We study multiple ways to achieve your goals—evaluating layouts, circulation, proportions, and relationships between spaces. Several solutions may work, but one will emerge as the most refined, cohesive, and uniquely suited to your home and how you plan to live there over time.
Thoughtful design allows you to:
- See and understand your landscape before construction begins
- Make confident, informed decisions without second-guessing
- Avoid costly revisions and rework down the road
- Plan for future phases so nothing ever needs to be undone
Much of the most valuable design work happens behind the scenes. It’s the careful testing of proportions, the balance of curves and structure, the study of movement and flow, and the integration of future ideas into a cohesive whole. This level of planning ensures your landscape works beautifully today—and continues to make sense years from now.
When design is done at the highest level, it doesn’t just save time and money. It gives you peace of mind, clarity, and the confidence that every decision supports the best possible version of your property.
What’s Included in Our Landscape Design Services
Our landscape design services are intentionally comprehensive. They’re built to remove uncertainty, uncover opportunity, and ensure every decision is made with clarity and confidence—long before construction begins.
Every design is fully customized. We don’t use templates, standard layouts, or one-size-fits-all solutions. Each plan is shaped around your home, your goals, and how you want to live outdoors.
Concept Development & Space Planning
Landscape design is about far more than placing features on a plan. It’s about shaping space.
During concept development, we explore how your outdoor areas can be organized, connected, and experienced. We study circulation, proportions, relationships between spaces, and how the landscape interacts with your home’s architecture.
This is where ideas begin to take form—and where thoughtful planning prevents costly changes later.
On-Site Consultation & Property Evaluation
Every project begins with an on-site consultation with one of our skilled landscape designers. This is where we listen, observe, and begin developing a clear understanding of your property and what’s possible within it.
We’ll talk through:
- Your goals, priorities, and how you want to use your outdoor spaces
- Design styles you’re drawn to
- Modern
- Traditional
- Craftsman
- Mid-Century
- Cape Cod
- Lakeside
- Any future plans for your home, such as additions, garages, pools, or material changes
- Opportunities within your existing landscape that may not be immediately obvious
We’ll also introduce ideas that may complement your vision—such as landscape lighting, irrigation, or architectural features like pergolas—so you can consider options you may not have thought about yet.
This phase sets the foundation for everything that follows.
Multiple Design Concepts & Options
What Sets Our Design Process Apart
One of the most valuable aspects of our design process is that we don’t present just one solution.
We know there’s rarely only one “right” way to achieve your goals. There may be more elaborate or more restrained approaches, larger or more compact layouts, or variations in style that all technically work—but feel very different.
Inspired by the idea behind the classic Landscapers Challenge concept, our design team develops multiple conceptual options for your project. Sometimes that means three concepts. In other cases, it may be five, seven, or more variations explored internally and refined through discussion.
By reviewing and comparing different layouts, shapes, sizes, and styles, you’re able to:
- See what’s possible
- Understand the tradeoffs between options
- Discover what you truly like best—not just what works
Our experience has shown that when homeowners are educated through comparison, clarity follows. You don’t just choose a design—you choose the best design after seeing what else could have worked, but didn’t work quite as well.
Material Selection, Features & Layout Design
Once a preferred direction is established, we refine the design with careful attention to materials, finishes, and features. Work design and build many types of retaining walls to fit the look and style you like best
This may include:
- Hardscape materials
- Paver selection guide
- Drainage, grading, and circulation planning
- Detailed planting designs
- Lighting, irrigation, and utility integration
- Architectural details that enhance function and character
Every decision is evaluated for both beauty and performance—so the landscape looks exceptional and works seamlessly over time.
Final Design Package Ready for Installation
The design process concludes with a clear, build-ready plan that communicates intent, detail, and execution.
This final design package allows your project to move forward confidently—whether as a single phase or in thoughtfully planned stages—knowing that every decision has been carefully considered and aligned with the larger vision.
How Our Landscape Design Services Are Different
Great Design Work Stand Out, no Matter the Size of the Project
At KG Landscape, design isn’t something we do to get to construction—it’s the core of everything that follows.
We approach landscape design as a discipline that requires leadership, experience, and accountability. Our goal isn’t simply to produce a plan. It’s to create a well-considered solution that feels inevitable once you see it—because every alternative has been thoughtfully explored and refined along the way.
Below is an example of a thoughtfully designed and expertly built front walkway and planting plan that enhances this Edina home with timeless curb appeal—clean, simple, and beautifully balanced.
After: new front yard landscaping we designed & installed in Edina. New paver walkway with redesigned shape, all new plantings
Design-Led Thinking, Not Install-First Shortcuts
Many landscape companies present a single design concept and ask homeowners to suggest changes. That approach places creative responsibility on the client and limits what’s possible. We take a different path.
Our goal is to help find the best possible design, thinking of all details ahead of time rather than trying to write up the easiest estimate possible. Helping discover the best version takes time and effort, this is what we do and we think its well worth it.
Rather than asking you to “tell us what to change,” we assume full creative leadership. We develop multiple design concepts that all accomplish your goals—each exploring different layouts, proportions, shapes, and stylistic directions. By reviewing and comparing these options, you’re able to choose the solution that resonates most strongly after seeing what’s possible.
We don’t believe in “you dream it, we design it.” We want to know how you'd like to use your space and your preferred design style. Then Our responsibility is to dream it into reality in CAD, test it, refine it, and elevate it—then present you with options that represent the best possible version of your new outdoor space.
Experience-Driven Decisions Backed by Real Construction Knowledge
Exceptional design doesn’t exist in isolation—it must perform in the real world.
Every design decision we make is informed by decades of hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining landscapes. This allows us to plan with confidence, anticipating challenges before they become problems and ensuring that what’s drawn can be executed precisely.
A key part of this expertise is our deep focus on drainage as a foundational design element—not an afterthought.
Our designs integrate comprehensive drainage solutions such as:
- Grading and surface flow planning
- Underground downspouts and collection systems
- French drains, dry wells, and rain gardens
- Sump pump discharge solutions and routing
- Capacity planning for large storm events and freeze–thaw cycles
By accounting for how water moves through the landscape—today and years from now—we ensure that every element works together and remains durable, functional, and resilient over time.
This level of planning goes far beyond sketching layouts or selecting plants. It’s how landscapes are built to last.
Before: Our customer's yard was constantly wet in Edina and this was their view of the neighbors house from their kitchen window
After: KG Landscape designed and built a wonderful dry creek bed drainage feature, with beautiful screen plantings, this is their view from the kitchen now
Before: the sump pump discharge made the side yard so wet, it became impossible to walk on for weeks at a time
After: we designed this beautiful dry creek bed in Edina to handle all sump pump and side yard swale drainage with screen plantings
A Collaborative, Client-Focused Design Experience
While we lead the creative process, collaboration remains central to how we work.
Clients often bring inspiration images and a sense of what they’re hoping to achieve. From there, we apply our experience, design education, and knowledge gained from thousands of completed projects to transform our ideas as how best to accomplish their goals, into refined, buildable solutions.
We welcome feedback and provide design revisions as needed—typically one or two rounds are all it takes. There’s no pressure, no rushing, and no upselling. The goal is simple: to arrive at a design we’re proud to build and that you’re excited to call your own.
We also think beyond the immediate project. Whether your landscape is built all at once or in thoughtful phases, we plan with the future in mind—so additions and changes can be integrated seamlessly without ever needing to undo previous work.
We don’t just design landscapes. We design beautiful living spaces for people to love—carefully planned, expertly executed, and built to stand the test of time.
Our Landscape Design Process: How it Works
Step 1: The Design Consultation
Every project begins with an on-site design consultation at your home. One of our expert landscape designers will meet with you to walk the property, learn about your goals, and understand the specific spaces you’re looking to improve.
During this meeting, we focus on listening first. We want to understand:
- How you currently use your yard
- What isn’t working or feels frustrating
- Ideas you’ve been thinking about or dreaming up
- How you’d like your outdoor spaces to function, feel, and look
As we move through the space together, we’ll also begin sharing our own thoughts and ideas—whether that’s discussing the layout of a new patio or outdoor living area, exploring ways to improve privacy with thoughtful planting, or reimagining your front yard with a new entry walkway and landscape layout. When applicable, we'll also discuss ideas for creating new steps and landings or even perhaps the pros and cons of replacing a low deck with a patio.
Through conversation and on-site walk-throughs, we’ll start painting a picture of what your landscape could become. Your reactions and feedback during this step help guide the creative direction for the next phase of design.
At the end of this consultation, we’ll outline the scope of design work needed and provide clear pricing for the landscape design plans.
Many clients choose to move forward with our design service at this first meeting, while others prefer to review a follow-up email and reach out when they’re ready—either approach is perfectly fine. To officially move forward with our design service, simply pay the design fee and your place in line is set.

Step 2: Concept Development
This is where the magic really begins.
The time our designers spend creatively thinking through your project is the most valuable part of the entire custom landscape design process.
Using everything gathered during the design consultation—site observations, measurements, notes, photos of your property, and any inspiration you share—we begin translating your goals into a creative, cohesive and compelling design vision.
This phase is a combination of careful analysis and creative exploration. Our designers study your site and its opportunities, revisit conversations and follow-up insights, and apply their experience, education, and problem-solving skills to begin laying out ideas that fit naturally and beautifully into your property.
It’s during this stage that ideas take shape first in the minds of our designers, then on paper. We explore multiple ways your space could be designed, always balancing beauty, function, and budget. The goal is to solve every challenge while checking all your boxes—often in ways that feel more thoughtful, creative, and elevated than you ever expected.
All of the best landscapes we create are anchored in this creative process.
Multiple Concepts Designs to Choose From
One thing that sets KG Landscape apart is the number of concept options we provide. Rather than limiting the process to one or two ideas, we often explore anywhere from three to ten concept plans, depending on the scope of the project. We do this because we know there is rarely just one “right” solution.
By exploring multiple layouts, we can evaluate different design approaches—such as straight lines versus curves, architectural forms versus free-flowing shapes, and various sizes and locations for patios, outdoor living spaces, and landscape features. Each option comes with its own advantages and trade-offs, and seeing them side by side allows you to make informed, confident decisions.
We believe the best possible landscape layout is found by exploring many options, weighing the pros and cons, and refining the strongest ideas. This process ensures that the final direction you choose is truly the most beautiful, functional, and elegant way to achieve your goals.
Real Concept Design Examples Gallery Below
Below is an example of how we approach landscape design by developing multiple, distinct conceptual plans for a single project. This gallery showcases eight unique concepts created for a Minneapolis home near Lake Harriet and Minnehaha Creek, illustrating the creative range and strategic thinking that go into our design process.
This project focused on reimagining a new side-yard and back-yard patio. The home features a flat side yard that transitions into a significant downhill slope toward the front yard, creating both design challenges and exciting opportunities. Principal Designer Kent Gliadon explored more concepts than typical to fully leverage the site’s potential.
Key design priorities included:
- Exploring multiple layout options, including extending patio space into the sloped front yard with retaining walls
- Designing a new patio door landing and steps off a newly installed patio door to create a seamless indoor-outdoor transition
- Creating strong visual and physical flow between the front yard, patio, and backyard spaces
- Addressing shade needs on the south-facing patio (e.g. pergola, shade trees, cantilevered umbrellas)
- Incorporating screen plantings to enhance privacy while providing a beautiful, layered backdrop visible from south-facing picture windows
- Preserving flat, usable lawn space for children and yard games, while thoughtfully integrating a hot tub into a compact backyard
- Designing landscape lighting layout and features
- Maximizing west-facing views toward Minnehaha Creek and evening sunsets
- Developing rich, layered planting concepts that elevate the space and feel intentional year-round
- New Cedar fencing design and layout, including an automatic driveway gate for security
These conceptual designs demonstrate how we explore creative possibilities early in the process to arrive at a landscape plan that is both functional and beautifully tailored to exceed our clients expectations.
Step 3: Concept Design Review
Bringing the Concepts to Life
After we’ve shared the concept designs from Step 2, we schedule a dedicated review call—typically via phone, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams—to walk through the designs together in detail. This conversation is where the concepts truly come to life.
While the drawings themselves are compelling, this step goes far beyond simply reviewing what’s on the page. The discussion adds depth, clarity, and context that helps you fully understand each design direction.
Walking Through Each Design Option
During the concept design review, your designer will guide you through each concept one by one. We’ll explain the thinking behind the layouts, how different design choices affect the way the space may be used, and why certain solutions may be better suited to your goals or personal style.
We openly discuss the pros and cons of each option, including placement of features, flow through the space, and how various layouts respond to the opportunities and constraints of your property.
Building Confidence & Defining Direction
By the end of this conversation, you’ll have a strong understanding of why the designs look the way they do and how the many small decisions support the overall vision. This shared understanding allows us to confidently identify the primary concept to move forward with.
Often, this includes combining ideas from multiple concept plans—selecting the strongest elements from each to create the next, more refined version of your landscape design as we move into Step 4: Design Development.
For many clients, this is the most exciting part of the process. Concepts that were interesting on paper now make complete sense, and the full potential of the space becomes clear through thoughtful discussion with our designers.
Step 4: Design Development
Following our detailed concept design review meeting or call, we begin translating your feedback into a more focused and intentional design direction. Every comment, question, and reaction you shared helps guide the evolution of the plan as we work toward an ideal layout that reflects your style, priorities, and how you want to use your outdoor space.
At this stage, we narrow in on the features we feel confident moving forward with and often combine the strongest elements from multiple concept plans. This approach allows us to create a layout that feels cohesive, purposeful, and uniquely tailored to you—rather than forcing a single concept to do everything.
Design Refinement & Details
As the design continues to evolve, we begin adding depth, clarity, and detail. This is where the plan starts to feel real.
We refine the overall layout while developing specific elements such as:
- Planting concepts and preliminary plant selections
- Patio and hardscape layouts, including inlays and border courses
- Locations for steps, stoops, landings, and transitions
- How each feature connects and functions together as a whole
These refinements ensure that the design isn’t just beautiful, but also practical, buildable, and thoughtfully composed. With each iteration, the plan moves closer to the final vision we’ve been discussing.
Moving Toward the Final Plan
Once the revised design is complete, we often reach a point where we can provide an initial estimate for the work outlined in the plan. Depending on the scope and complexity of your project, this may happen alongside a meeting to review the updated design, or we may send the revised plans to you for review before scheduling the next discussion.
Every project is different, and the pace of refinement depends on how quickly the design comes together based on prior conversations. Our goal is always the same: to move forward with clarity and confidence, ensuring the design reflects your goals before progressing toward final plans and next steps.
Step 5: Final Design, Proposal & Next Steps
After completing the refinement phase, we arrive at a point of clarity and confidence. By this stage, we’ve reviewed the design together, discussed any desired adjustments, and aligned on the scope of the project—whether that means adding, removing, or fine-tuning specific elements based on your feedback and initial budget discussions.
During the final design phase, we focus on completing the last layer of detail. The overall layout, features, and design direction are firmly established, allowing us to finalize every component with precision and intention. This includes fully developed planting plans, finalized hardscape layouts, and all construction details needed to clearly communicate the vision.
At this time, we provide clear, buildable design documentation along with precise pricing for implementing the project using our in-house installation teams. Every plant is labeled, every detail is accounted for, and the design is prepared to be built exactly as intended. The final design is accompanied by a detailed estimate covering all work outlined in the plan.
We typically schedule a final conversation to walk through both the completed design and the estimate—answering any remaining questions, discussing optional phasing strategies if desired, and confirming that the plan aligns with your goals, priorities, and timeline.
By the end of this step, you’ll have everything you need to confidently move forward with your project. If you choose to proceed, we’ll outline the required deposit to secure your place on our installation schedule, along with our expected lead time between sign-up and construction start. From there, the transition from design to installation is seamless and well-organized.
Our goal is to arrive at a landscape plan that works beautifully for you and represents the highest level of care and craftsmanship from our entire team. We want you to love the final design—and we want our designers and installation crews to be proud to bring it to life. This commitment holds true for projects of every size, from small enhancements to large, complex landscape transformations.
Before and After Pictures of this Minneapolis Outdoor Living Space Project
Our Passion for Creating Exceptional Outdoor Spaces
Custom Landscape Design by People Who Truly Care
At KG Landscape, we care deeply about helping homeowners make the most of their outdoor spaces. We believe your landscape should give you a sense of pride—whether you’re pulling into the driveway after a long day, welcoming friends and family to your home, or simply enjoying a quiet moment outside.
That feeling starts with thoughtful planning, great design, and careful execution. Landscaping isn’t just something around your home—it’s the first impression, the backdrop for memories, and a big part of how a place feels. We take that responsibility seriously.
This passion starts at the top. Our founder and principal designer, Kent Gliadon, feels that same pride in his own home and brings that mindset to every project we touch. We know how meaningful it is when a space finally feels right—and we’re driven to help our clients experience that same sense of ownership and belonging in their landscapes.
Your yard should feel like it truly belongs to you.
Designing Spaces That Reflect How You Want to Live
Residential Landscape Design
We’ve seen far too many homeowners invest in landscaping that looks OK at first glance, but lacks real design thinking. Often, for similar pricing, the difference comes down to whether time, creativity, and experience were truly invested in the planning process and if the company you choose to work with has these abilities or not.
As a professional landscape design company in the twin cities, our focus is on understanding how you live, how you entertain, how you want to use your outdoor spaces and the style that represents your home—then designing around those concepts. Whether it’s a front yard refresh, a backyard outdoor living space, or a complete property transformation, we believe every project deserves the same level of care and thoughtful design.
We work on large, complex properties and beautiful homes—but we also work with everyday homeowners who simply want their space to function better and look amazing. Regardless of budget or project size, our goal is always to create a landscape that feels intentional, personal, and well-planned from start to finish.
Beautiful Living Spaces
We design landscapes to stand the test of time—not just visually, but functionally. Especially here in Minnesota, where our outdoor season is precious and far too short, we believe your landscape should be something you enjoy fully, not something you’re constantly thinking needs to be fixed or changed.
When a space is designed correctly, everything falls into place. The grill is where it makes sense. The table is positioned for gathering. The fire pit feels natural. The lawn is flat and usable for kids. The lighting brings the space to life at night. Plants bloom throughout the season, and every area serves a purpose.
When all the details are right, there’s a special feeling that comes with it—when nothing feels out of place and everything simply works. That’s the power of thoughtful, sustainable landscape design.
We build long-term relationships, not one-time projects. Our clients trust us with their homes, and we take that trust personally. We see our customers as friends and family, and we feel a deep responsibility to do right by them—by planning carefully, executing with precision, and delivering the best possible version of what they came to us for.
This isn’t just how we do business. It’s how we live our lives. And it’s why we’re proud to continue creating exceptional outdoor spaces year after year.
Who Our Landscape Designs Are For
A Note From Founder and Lead Designer: Kent Gliadon
Early in my career, after helping very nice customer design a small but special backyard outdoor living space with a patio and garden spaces in St. Louis Park, I remember a follow-up meeting where a client’s partner asked a question that’s stayed with me ever since: Why would anyone spend money on an outdoor space like the one his partner and I had created on paper, when our summers in MN are so short and everything is covered in snow half the year anyway?
That perspective struck me—not because it was wrong, but because it was rooted in so much pessimism. And my work has always been rooted in the opposite.
Everything we do at KG Landscape is built around optimism—around making the absolute most of our spring, summer, and fall seasons here in Minnesota. Those sunlit evenings spent outside. The sound of birds in the background. Flowers in bloom. Food cooking on the grill. Music playing softly while friends gather, kids run through the yard, a game of catch starts up, or a sprinkler turns into a waterslide.
These moments matter to me and they matter to to people who we work with. They’re fleeting, meaningful, and in my case worth dedicating my life's work toward. Summer days and evening spend in my yard with my family and friends like this, are truly amongst the happiest days of my life and always have been even since I was a child growing up in Fridley.
Our landscape designs are for homeowners who see this time of year with a glass-half-full mindset. People who believe their outdoor space should be enjoyed, celebrated, and lived in—not overlooked because winter comes eventually.
We build spaces that help make these moments possible, we help design the plantings filled with wonderful flowers that families stop and smell :) and that gives us deep pride in what we do.
If you value time outside, pride in your home, connection with family and friends, and creating a place that feels truly yours—our designs are for you.
Is Our Landscape Design Service Right for You?
One of the biggest advantages of working with KG Landscape is that we are a true design-build landscape company. From the first design conversation through final installation, everything is handled by one coordinated team.
There are no handoffs, no gaps in communication, and no guessing how a design should be built and no asking new people questions we've already discussed and planned togehter. The same team that creates your landscape design is directly involved in bringing it to life—ensuring the original design intent is carried through to completion.
Because of this integrated approach, we’re able to take on complex, highly detailed projects that many landscape companies simply don’t offer.
Our residential landscape design services include everything from hardscaping, patios, retaing walls, boulder work, planting design, grading and drainage improvements to specialty services like landscape lighting, irrigation system design, working with electricians and plumbers, designing and installing fencing, pergolas, concrete work, steps, stoops, landings, decks, and more.
Just as important as what we build is how we build it. We place a strong emphasis on planning, clear communication, and proactive project management. Our clients appreciate regular updates, in-person meetings, and a team that stands behind its work. We take pride in the long-term relationships we build and feel genuinely grateful for the trust our clients place in us.
Is KG Landscape the Right Fit for Your Project?
If you’re looking for a very simple, no-frills project—such as a basic rectangular patio with no surrounding landscaping and the lowest possible price—KG Landscape is likely not the right fit.
However, if you’re interested in creating a true outdoor living space—one that thoughtfully integrates a patio, grading and drainage solutions, planting design, privacy elements, lighting, and functional flow—then we’re likely a great match.
Our ideal clients value good design, careful planning, and a cohesive approach that results in a finished landscape that feels complete, intentional, and built to last.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I pay for landscape design?
Professional landscape design requires significant time, expertise, and creative energy. From site measurements and photos to meetings, communication, and hours of focused design work, everything happens before any installation commitment is made. That’s why reputable landscape design companies charge for design services.
If you move forward with KG Landscape for installation, 100% of your design fee is credited back to the project, making the design effectively free in the end.
2. Can I use the design with another contractor?
Technically, yes—the designs are yours to keep and are customized specifically for your property. However, KG Landscape is a design-build company. Our goal is to design projects we will also install.
The designer who creates the plan is the only person who fully understands the intent behind every decision. When another contractor who wasn’t part of the creative process attempts to build the design, the result often falls short of the original vision. For this reason, if you know you plan to use a different installer, we kindly ask that you seek out a design-only firm instead.
3. How long does the landscape design process take?
Most landscape design projects take approximately 3–6 weeks, depending on the time of year and project complexity. This timeline typically includes design development through final plans, at which point the project can be scheduled if you choose to move forward.
4. What does landscape design cost?
Landscape design fees typically range from $500 for simple projects to $3,000 + dollars for complex designs. During your design consultation, we’ll provide a fixed design price based on the scope of your project, so there are no surprises.
5. Do you design small yards as well as large projects?
Yes. We design everything from small urban yards in Minneapolis and St. Paul to large estate properties in areas like Medina and Orono—and everything in between.
6. Do you have a minimum project size?
Yes. Projects that require formal landscape design typically have a $10,000 minimum project size. Smaller projects can often be addressed without a full design process through sketches or on-site planning.
7. How big are your typical landscape projects?
Our projects range from $10,000 to $500,000. We prefer projects where we can see the entire space thoughtfully completed—even if that means building in phases—so the final result reflects the full design intent. Our typical projects range is price between $25-$150,000. Examples include, new front yard landscaping, wonderful backyard outdoor living spaces, and so much more.
8. Will you create landscape designs for a homeowner to install?
No. KG Landscape is a design-build firm. Our designers work closely with our in-house installation teams to ensure designs are executed exactly as intended. If you’re looking for a design-only service, there are firms better suited to that approach.
