Professional Landscape Design: The Key To Increasing Your Property Value

Picture your dream home: a beautiful, well-maintained property with gorgeous landscaping that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor. Now imagine the impact such an outdoor paradise can have on your property value.

Professional landscape design is not just about beautifying your yard; it's an investment that significantly increases the worth and appeal of any property. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of professional landscape design in boosting property value and discuss various landscaping projects that can help you achieve this goal more effectively.

The Importance Of Professional Landscape Design

Professional landscape design is essential in increasing property value, enhancing curb appeal and outdoor living space, as well as ensuring eco-friendly designs.

Increased Property Value

Investing in professional landscape design is one of the most effective ways to significantly increase your property value. Numerous studies have demonstrated the impact of a well-executed landscaping project on a home's worth, with data from Virginia Tech researchers suggesting that it can boost real estate appraisals by as much as 15%.

A key factor contributing to heightened property values is design sophistication. A survey investigating the effect of landscape plants on perceived home value found that thoughtfully planned and aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces were instrumental in enhancing overall perception.

In essence, investing in garden design, hardscaping, and exterior property renovations not only creates visual appeal but also ensures that homeowners enjoy considerable returns when selling their homes.

Enhanced Curb Appeal

Enhanced curb appeal is a significant aspect of professional landscape design that contributes to increased property value. First impressions are crucial when it comes to real estate, as potential buyers often make initial judgments based on the appearance of a home's exterior and its surroundings.

A well-designed landscape not only elevates the overall aesthetic of a property but also showcases that the home is well-maintained – a desirable trait for any prospective buyer.

For instance, incorporating native plants, upgrading walkways and driveways, or adding tasteful landscape lighting can significantly enhance curb appeal while also demonstrating environmental consciousness and attention to detail.

Improved Outdoor Living Space

A well-executed professional landscape design can significantly enhance your outdoor living space, providing the perfect environment for entertaining guests, enjoying family gatherings, or simply relaxing in a serene atmosphere.

The key to creating an inviting and functional outdoor area lies in combining practical features such as patios, decks, and garden beds with captivating aesthetics that harmonize with your home's architectural style.

In addition to being aesthetically pleasing and functional, improving your outdoor living space through landscaping has been proven to increase property value by up to 15%.

This means that investing in a professionally designed backyard renovation not only provides you with enhanced curb appeal but also comes with significant financial benefits when it is time to sell your home.
Such thoughtful designs often incorporate climate considerations and native plants, which promote environmental benefits while reducing maintenance demands.

Eco-Friendly Design

Professional landscape design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your property but can also improve its sustainability. Eco-friendly design is an increasingly important consideration in landscape architecture, and for good reason.

By incorporating native plants into your outdoor spaces, you can reduce the need for frequent watering and fertilization while promoting biodiversity. Similarly, installing permeable pavement or rain gardens helps manage stormwater runoff more effectively by allowing water to be absorbed back into the ground instead of overwhelming drain systems.

Landscaping Projects That Add Value To Your Home

Incorporate native plants for sustainable landscaping, create inviting outdoor living areas, upgrade walkways and driveways, and add landscape lighting to enhance curb appeal - read on for more tips on how professional landscape design can increase your property value.

Incorporating Native Plants

One of the landscaping projects that can add value to your home is incorporating native plants. By using plant species that are indigenous to your region, you can improve the overall health and sustainability of your landscape while also enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

Native plants require less water, fertilizer, and maintenance than non-native varieties, making them an eco-friendly choice for homeowners looking to reduce their environmental impact.

Incorporating native plants in your landscaping design doesn't just benefit the environment – it can also increase your property value by up to 20%. By showcasing a diverse range of flora that thrives in your area, you're creating a unique selling point for potential buyers who appreciate the natural beauty around them.

Creating Outdoor Living Areas

Creating outdoor living areas is one of the best ways to increase your property value, and it's becoming increasingly popular. These areas incorporate elements like fire pits, seating arrangements, dining spaces, and outdoor kitchens that make the outdoors more livable for homeowners.

By investing in these design features, you're essentially increasing your home's square footage by creating a usable space outside of your interior walls.

When designing an outdoor living space, consider incorporating natural elements such as
water features or native plants to create a serene atmosphere. Hardscaping materials like stone patios or retaining walls can also add functionality and appeal to these spaces.

Sustainability-focused landscaping can also be incorporated into outdoor designs that reduce water usage through efficient irrigation systems and conservation techniques.

Upgrading Walkways And Driveways

Upgrading your walkways and driveways can be an excellent way to improve the look of your home's exterior and increase its property value. When designing walkways and driveways, it's important to consider the materials you choose.

Hiring a professional landscape designer can ensure that your walkway or driveway upgrade is done correctly, adding both beauty and function to your outdoor space. With well-designed hardscaping projects, you can add charm to your yard while increasing curb appeal and making an impression on potential buyers if you decide to sell in the future.

Adding Landscape Lighting

One of the most effective ways to increase your property value is by adding landscape lighting . Not only does it enhance the beauty and aesthetics of your outdoor space, but it also adds an extra layer of safety and functionality to your home.

Investing in good-quality exterior lighting fixtures can be estimated to cost around $5,000 for a standard 600w transformer and installation. The return on investment can be as high as 20%, making it an excellent choice for homeowners looking to add value to their property.

Choosing The Right Professional Landscape Designer For Your Home

When selecting a professional landscape designer for your home, it is crucial to ensure they have the appropriate licenses and certifications.

Checking Licenses And Certifications

Make sure to choose a professional landscape designer who holds the necessary licenses and certifications. Landscape architects are required to be licensed in all states, and each state has its own set of requirements for obtaining a license.

By hiring a licensed landscape designer, you can ensure that they have the knowledge and expertise necessary to create an exceptional outdoor living space that meets your needs while adhering to safety standards.

Look for designers with certifications from professional organizations such as the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), which indicates additional training and experience in garden architecture.

Looking At Previous Work And Testimonials

Before hiring a professional landscape designer, it's essential to do your research and look at their previous work and testimonials. This will give you an idea of their style, creativity, and professionalism.

Ask the designer for references from previous clients and take a look at their online portfolio to see pictures of completed projects.

Looking at testimonials is another great way to evaluate a landscape designer's qualifications. Take some time to read reviews on social media platforms or directly on their website.

If possible, reach out to former clients who have worked with the landscape designer before for feedback on their experience.

Collaborating On Ongoing Maintenance

One of the key benefits of working with a professional landscape designer is that they can provide ongoing maintenance services for your landscaping projects. Collaborating with an expert in garden design and property management can help ensure that your outdoor space remains beautiful, healthy, and functional year after year.

They can offer regular care like pruning and fertilizing plants, trimming trees, mowing lawns, clearing debris from hardscapes, and checking irrigation systems to keep everything in top condition.

Collaborating on ongoing maintenance allows you to build a relationship with your landscaper so that you have someone who understands the unique needs of your property over time. You'll be able to rely on their expertise to make recommendations about which plants will thrive under various conditions or how best to solve problems like drainage issues or pest infestations.

Professional Landscape Design Is Worth The Investment

Professional landscape design is an investment that can greatly increase the value of your property. You can achieve this by enhancing curb appeal, adding outdoor living spaces, incorporating eco-friendly designs, or upgrading walkways and driveways.

With a little effort, you can create a beautiful oasis that both you and potential buyers will love.

Some people like to use the phrase "nature is healing." However, in some cases, nature can't heal itself alone. That's where we come in. Recently, a homeowner in Maple Grove, Minnesota reached out to KG Landscape after struggling to revitalize a back yard that was simply failing to thrive. Despite what seemed like ample sunlight and water, the turf suffered from numerous thin and bare patches that refused to improve. To determine exactly why they couldn't get this yard to flourish on its own, our client asked us to assess the yard and determine a plan that could reinstate the lush green lawn they expected for their Maple Grove home.

Seldom will you find a piece of landscaping less desirable than the unintentional water feature. That's why a recent client in St. Paul, Minnesota's Macalester-Groveland neighborhood reached out to KG Landscape. Poor drainage in their yard had begun to allow standing water to accumulate, which not only damaged the lawn but was also beginning to make its way into the home's foundation. Our assignment was to determine why this water was pooling where it was, then find a way to divert it to a safer outlet. In order to do so and to improve the health of this St. Paul lawn, our team developed a system of catch basins and underground drain pipes to capture and redirect rainwater. Additionally, we restored the damage standing water had done to the lawn with a full topdressing treatment combined with seed blankets in the most critical areas of the lawn. Upon completing the project, we successfully resolved the yard's drainage issues while also bolstering the health of the lawn.
