Robbinsdale Snow Removal for West Broadway Shops and Retail Centers
Shopper stalls, storefront walks and patio fronts, ready before the first customer comes in.
Robbinsdale Commercial Snow Removal Between Main Street and County Road 81
A Robbinsdale shop needs three things after a storm: the public walk cleared inside the city's 12 hour window, parking stalls open before the doors unlock, and every pile kept on the property instead of back in the street. Miss the first and the city can send its own contractor and bill the property. Miss the second and customers drive past to a lot that's already open.
Our crews have kept business lots open through Minnesota snow since 2003. Kent Gliadon started the company, and he has plowed strip centers for upward of twenty years, the kind where each tenant runs on a different clock. Before the season starts, we draw up a site plan using our commercial snow and ice program.
What Robbinsdale Expects Once Two Inches Fall
Robbinsdale doesn't announce snow emergencies anymore. According to the city's snow plowing and removal page, one begins on its own as soon as two inches have fallen. Under City Code section 1305.09, parking is banned on any public street, alley or city-owned lot until that street is plowed and the snow is pushed back to the curb line, and cars left behind can be ticketed or towed. If another two inches pile up after the full plow, the rule switches back on.
Walks run on a separate clock. Per the city's answer on sidewalk shoveling, owners or occupants of a building beside a public sidewalk have 12 hours after a snowfall to clear it, under section 805 of the City Code. When a walk is left, the city hires a contractor and assesses the cost to the property.
Most of that frontage belongs to shops. The city's business overview describes Robbinsdale's businesses as mostly retail and service, gathered along West Broadway and County Road 81 between 40th and 42nd Avenues North, with a major retail center at County Road 81 and 36th Avenue North. Here's how we work a lot in either spot.

How We Clear a Robbinsdale Retail Strip
Stalls closest to the doors, on the first pass
Shoppers park as close to the entrance as they can, so those stalls are where the truck begins. Accessible spaces and the curb ramps beside them come right after, because a ramp packed with snow turns a short walk into a real hazard. Outer rows and lot edges get finished while the front of the lot is already serving customers, and our parking lot plowing covers every stall in between.

The storefront walk, past patio rails and planters
Plenty of strip centers have a front walk broken up by patio fencing, planters and trash bins, and a plow can't get near any of it. Our walk crews handle that stretch with blowers and shovels, working around each obstacle down to the concrete, then treat it so foot traffic doesn't pack the leftovers into ice. That front walk is often the very sidewalk Robbinsdale gives you 12 hours to clear.

Drive aisles plowed while the shops stay open
When snow keeps falling into business hours, the crew plows around parked cars. One lane in and out of the lot stays open throughout, the aisles get pushed wide, and occupied stalls wait for a cleanup pass after closing. It takes longer than an empty lot, but the entrance stays usable for customers the whole storm.

End caps, corners and the lane out back
The side of the building and the service lane behind it are what hurried crews skip, and that's where deliveries, trash pickup and employees come and go. We plow those lanes on every visit and include the stairs, dumpster pads and back door aprons in our back of building clearing, so the rear of the strip works as well as the front.

Salt where cars stop and people step out
Once the pavement is clear, salt goes on the lot, the walks and the spots where cars idle and drip. On the coldest days salt works slowly, so sand is spread alongside it for traction. Read how we pick salt, sand or brine for the temperature.
A Robbinsdale Plan Built Around Tenant Hours
Ahead of the season, we tour the lot alongside you or your landlord and record each tenant's opening hour, the entrances, the walks, the back lane and the spots where piles can go without hiding a sign or a driver's view. Your trigger is a single inch or a full two, your choice. When the snow quits, everything in the plan wraps up within 12 hours, and our storm phone is answered at 3 a.m. as readily as at noon. A flat monthly bill is among our seasonal snow contract options, and when banks begin swallowing parking spaces in February, we push them higher or truck them away. The full menu sits on our commercial plowing, salting and hauling page.

Robbinsdale Snow Removal for Clinics, Medical and Professional Offices
Retail isn't the whole picture. The city names North Memorial Medical Center, off West Broadway, as Robbinsdale's largest employment concentration, with medical offices spread across town. A clinic sees patients who may move slowly or use walkers, so its entrances and drop-off lanes are cleared, salted early and rechecked through the day. A professional office can usually be finished overnight, before staff pull in. To see that kind of site in more depth, read about snow service for St. Anthony clinics and professional offices. Robbinsdale's parking and sidewalk rules apply to clinics and offices just as they do to shops.

Residential Snow Removal for Robbinsdale Homeowners

KG also clears driveways and walks for single-family houses across Robbinsdale, on residential routes separate from the commercial work above. Because the city's snow emergency starts on its own at two inches, cars come off the street and into the driveway, so the driveway has to open first. The 12 hour sidewalk rule applies to houses as well as shops. Each driveway and walk gets mapped ahead of the season, so snow goes where you want it.
- Driveway plowing or snow blowing, garage to street
- Hand shoveling for walks, steps and the stoop
- Salt on icy patches
- The city plow's windrow across your driveway opening, cleared away
Crews come out at the depth you pick, an inch or two. You pay a seasonal price and have one account manager to call at any hour. See snow plowing for Twin Cities homes.
Questions From Robbinsdale Shop and Property Owners
Do I have to wait for Robbinsdale to declare a snow emergency?
No. Robbinsdale stopped declaring them. A snow emergency now starts automatically the moment snowfall reaches two inches, and the city tells drivers to measure where they plan to park. Street parking stays off limits until plows have cleared that street to both curbs, and the restriction returns if another two inches build up afterward. For a shop, that means people who usually park on a side street will be looking for room in your lot, often before anyone says a word. We plan for it by opening your stalls early in any storm that reaches two inches.
What happens if my shop's sidewalk isn't cleared within 12 hours?
The city can clear it for you and send the bill. Robbinsdale's code makes whoever owns or occupies the building responsible for the public sidewalk beside it, with 12 hours after a snowfall to clear it. A walk left too long gets a city-hired contractor, and the cost is assessed to the property. At a strip center, it's often unclear whether that walk belongs to the landlord or to each tenant, so settle that question in the fall. We clear the public walk early in each visit and log the time it was done.
What happens when it keeps snowing after the lot is plowed?
The crew comes back. In a long storm, we don't wait for the final flake before returning: the front stalls, the main lane and the storefront walk get another pass as snow piles up again, and the full cleanup follows once it stops. Robbinsdale works the same way on its streets, where a second two inch buildup after a curb to curb plow puts the parking ban back in force. That pushes street parkers into your lot a second time, so keeping the stalls near your doors open through the whole storm matters more than one perfect early pass.
How do you plow a strip center where tenants keep different hours?
We build the route around the earliest opening. At the walkthrough, we list each tenant's hours, and the stalls and walk in front of the first business to open get cleared first. A coffee shop that opens at dawn and a salon that opens at ten need different things from the same lot, so later units are finished while the early ones already have customers. In a snowfall lasting into business hours, the crew works around parked cars and comes back after closing for the stalls that were full.
Has KG Landscape worked in Robbinsdale before?
Yes, on the residential side. We completed a lawn renovation at a lakefront home in Robbinsdale that involved grinding out large stumps, removing their root systems, regrading the backyard and preparing the property for a new irrigation system before seeding. That project was lawn work, not snow work, so it isn't a commercial reference. Our commercial snow program has served Twin Cities properties since 2003, and every Robbinsdale site gets its own plan, built from a walkthrough of that property rather than a template.
